Hi, I have been getting lightheadedness since 8/97. I was on an
airplaine and thought it was just motion sickness. After landing, it
continued. Lightheadedness, nausea, and after 2 ear nose throat
doctors, and one neurologist, one says it is my sinuses, and the
other two say it is a virus. Now lets be honest, when doctors call
something a virus, they really don't know what is the cause. A virus
will not cause symptoms for this long of a time. I take anitvert, and

Hi Cory, Ask your DR for an ENG. It's a test that will help determine
if you have an inner ear problem. check out the website for the
 Vestibular Disorder's Association (VEDA):

provide lists of drs. in your area that treat ear disorders. I'm 27

I've had several dizzy spells since Dec (when I wrote my first notes)
Each time the Afrin(oxymetazoline)nasal spray gave immediate relief.
 It's happened enough to where I don't think it's a coincedence. I only
use half the dosage(1 spray) and usually don't have to use it again
until the next dizzy spell. But I also use Flonase and it really helps
to counteract the side effects of the Afrin. Still being retested by

There is hope people! I am feeling better, a lot better. Two years ago I
woke up spinning in my bed. It came out of no where. I am 25 healthy
and had no ear problems. After that May 1, morning I had been dizzy,
off balance, and feeling like I just got off a ride Knots Berry Farm. I
have had every test, MRI, ENG, ECt. any found no answers. I am happy to
say I am getting better every week. I run every other day and do eye
excerises. Dont give up I know how you feel.

I woke up one morning and it felt like I was still very groggy and

become dizzy and a litte out of focus. I went to my doctor and I took

The first time I had an "episode" I felt dizzy and then over several
hours I became so weakened that I could barely lift my hand. Now when I
get dizzy it seems to be preceded by a couple days of ear ticking and
headache. Along with that I get a tightening in my left leg and
tingling bottom left foot. Two years ago MRI was negative but ANA test
was positive. Am beginning testing rounds again!Anyone else with these
 symptomes?

BPPV IS CURABLE IN 48 HOURS Some physical therapists do nothing but put

Yes Labyrinthitis could be it but don't discount a Viral Encephalitis.
Have your doctor give you a EEG, you may be surprized to find out you
have had a virul infection to the brain causeing all of your symptoms.
This is a swelling of the Brain, and causes problems with the Niron
recepters in your brain that control Balance. I had all the teasts But
the EEG was the only one that said I was not NUTS. 9 months and it
could be years with this thing because of perminant damage to my Brain.

I'm encouraged that I'm not alone. At 36 yrs. I've been panicking that
I'm too young for this (started 2 yr. ago), and need to care for a
small child. 2 yrs. ago was hit with a 48 hr. vertigo episode. Thought
I'd go insane! Happened on and off for 1-1/2 yrs. and finally told
that I had positional vertigo; excercises worked. Just got a cold and
was slammed with a major vertigo (spinning) attack. Meclizine helped.
I'm determined to find cure!! I hate this!!!

For those of you who do not have a diagnosis, be sure that your Dr.
eliminated the possibility of a virus called "Giardiasis" (Beaver
Fever). My friend exhibited symptoms (for two years before being
diagnose) dizziness, hearing loss, nausea, loss of concentration,
etc..., had to quit work and this parasite was the cause. This is a
parasite with serious complications and needs to be ruled out as a
cause. Ask your Dr. for further details. Please check into it!

my case the latest attacks of vertigo and dizziness were triggered by

Hello, Iam 33yrs with Menieres.Had shunt surgery which did not work, and
left me with no functional hearing, now I am undergoing Gentamycin
injections which seem to help. Please try a low salt diet and lots of
water first!! Give it time to work.Unfortunately I did not give this
time to work and wish I would have realized the importance of reducing
salt to eliminate excess water which raises the fluid in the ear.

I am 27 years old and have BPPV. The things that help are rest,
avoiding alcohol, and limiting time in front of computer screens,
florescents lights, etc. I agree with those who say mezycline does
not work. Xanax, however, has changed my life. My advice is to find
a doctor that will give you a combination of physical therapy and
 Xanax.

Does anyone know about a disorder called Disabling Positional Vertigo
(DPV)? Symptoms are similar to BPPV, but vertigo is not always
followed by a position change. It has to do with vascular compression
of the 8th cranial nerve. Post it if you know where I can find out
 more. Thanks

Had a virulent infection resulting in emergency surgery in January.
Was treated with gentamiacin for ONE week (intravenously). 3 days after
coming home from the hospital, I began to feel lightheaded. The next
day my equilibrium was GONE! ENG's show no response in either ear
since early February. Have gone for vestibular rehab at MUSC and am
doing several exercises 2x daily. I'm improving after 3 weeks!! Has
anyone gotten ALL BETTER, and how long did it take? I want to ski

I have had dizziness and vertigo problems for over two months now. I
have had the tests, hearing, ENG, MRI, bloodwork and all are normal.
Doctors are talking about Meniere and other possible causes. Doctors
are confused by the fact that the symptoms occur only during or after
heavy exercise. Symptoms can last for days. Many things I have read
sound similiar except many of you suggest exercise helps. Looking for
anyone with similiar problem or any help in this area. Thanks, Paul.

Have had three bouts of incredible spinning/nausea, vomiting. Got two
just after first of year and now am just recovering from one I got over
the weekend. Spells typically last two solid days. Going to see my
first ear, nose and throat specialist tomorrow. Thank you all for your
comments - I am learning from your experiences.

I do not have dizziness as often as some of you, but when I do feel
dizzy I feel like I am going to pass out. Like many of you I have had
all types of tests done and found nothing. Sometime I feel like it is
triggered with my eyes. The longer I stare at something I am reading
or even typing this message can trigger a dizzy spell. I appreciate
reading all of your comments and am amazed at how many people suffer
 from this.

My name is jeanette. Four years ago I developed sudden dizziness. I
never had spinning but I always felt like I was walking on a boat and I
was lightheaded most of the time. This lasted for about one year. It
got better. I went to every doctor imaginable. This last year I was
diagnosed with a vestibular disorder. I suggest anyone who has
dizziness and has been to a doctor and has had no easy answers should
go to a Center for Dizzy and Balance Disorders. These people are
