I have had vestibular problems all my life (40 years) and I only
 recently have been  able to be open and honest and really talk to
 people about what they have done to my life.  I always tried to cope
 alone but feel better now that I'm less embarrassed to discuss the
 problem.  It helps me feel like I'm a whole person, even though I still
 can't make my body  do everything I'd like it to.  Most people suffer
 from something, and we are not "lesser" people,  just dizzy people!

I would like to correspond with other who not only have a spinning
 sensation but also have a joggling or bouncing vision.  Doctors said
 this is something I will have to live with.  The spinning was helped

Have had vestibular problem for 13 months, no one diagnosis, constant
 swaying, off balance, being beaten up inside, 24 hrs a day, cannot
 sleep day or night. Many doctors, many tests, many drugs, no help.
 Walking is only help and is temporary, but can't stand still and stay
 upright.  Seeing shrink but still not coping well.  Would like to hear
 how others cope.

Dizziness, difficulty walking and standing all the time since 1994.
 Less severe version occurred in 1987 completely cured by chiropractic
 manipulation. Didn't work this time. Neurologists have performed all
 their tests and find no significant abnormality. Diagnosed as "Phobic
 Positional Vertigo." Problem significantly controlled by Klonopin.
 Since neck surgery 6 months ago, problem has reappeared and Klonopin
 no longer effective. Very disabling: any suggestions/answers?

 surgerys  decopression of the eighth nerve and a singular nerectomy. I
 still have alot of motion sickness and feeling of rocking and heaviness

I would like to know how you tell if dizziness or vertigo is from the
 ear or is a sign of something worse like multiple sclerosis.  I have
 also had problems with balance, swallowing , weakness, coordination.

Keep a diary of symptoms,what you have ingested etc.  Keep a diary of
 what you do that is different.  Do not take your remission as a sign of
 cure.  Learn,if you can everything about your disease and never  never,
 give up hope.  Find out what your "focus" point is.Smoking?Eating?Faith
 etc.  Take one day at a time.

Please help if anyone has advice.    I am a 40 yr. old female With
 undiagnosed Vestibular Disorder for 2yrs.  Can any one explain why in
 addition to the dizziness I experience what I   can only describe as a
 servere "fulness" behind my eyes.  I am constanly tired and need to lay

I have been diagnosed with Vestibular Neuronitis. I have had this for
 three years. I have been doing vestibular rehab. for eight months.I
 have a feeling of rocking on a boat,dizziness,neck and back pain. Ialso
 tire easy.I sometimes get depressed but not as much as I used to. I
 have decided to live my life as best I can. I keep moving no matter how
 hard it may seem.I just try to appreciate the fact that I can move.I

Was told some 14 years ago by ENT doctor that I have vertigo.  Have gone
 as long as 3 weeks with dizziness, counterclockwise spinning,  and
 nausea. Was given Meclizine to take 4 times daily, still doesn't  help.
 Any suggestions?

This is my first experience with inner ear disturbance. The doctor gave
 me meclizine. All this does is give me insomnia and nightmares.

VERTIGO IS HIGHLY UNDER RATED, IF YOU DON`T HAVE IT, DON`T JUDGE....

I would like to talk with anyone on this subject. My doctor pretty much
 tells  me that I it will clear up by itself.  I have had two major
 attacks where I have   been down for over 2 days. Maybe for some folks
 thats minor but for me thats major.  Both of these attacks seem to
 start in the middle of the night. I guess I have been pretty   lucky
 that it seems that when I rcv a little attack it is usually caused from

I have been dizzy for almost a year.  My latest diagnosis was
 persistant mal de debarquement, which is a rare form of migraine that
 manifests itself in the form of dizziness instead of pain.  Loosely,
 translated mal de debarquement is the sensation of disembarking from  a
 boat, (rocking/dizzy feeling).  I am just starting medication
 Propranolol (a beta-blocker) to get this into remission.  I would
 like to correspond with others who may have any info on this disease.

Hello.  I've had a problem with dizziness since 1989.  I won't go  into
 all the details here, but wanted to say that I've been through  a lot
 since that time.  A bad spell in 1992 made me drastically worse,  and I
 feared that I wouldn't be able to do many things ever again.  Since
 late 1995, I've been doing better, gradually-- So if you're  feeling
 down and perhaps hopeless, please know that things CAN improve  for

I've had ENT problems for years, particularly sinusitis. I get severe
 dizzy spells about once a year. They come on suddenly and gradually
 disappear over a couple of weeks. Also disorientation/dizziness spells
 in enclosed artificially lit areas with no windows. Generally, lying
 down or staying in one position helps, and if the symptoms of sinusitis
 are removed (I use Sinutab) things get a lot better. After reading

 approx  10 years, the dizziness just started about 3 weeks ago. My  ENT
 is not sure  what is causing it, but am taking a diuretic and anti-

Hi there.  Am I the only UK respondant?!  I have had chronic vertigo for
 17 years (since age of 15, now 32).  Have had all the tests, treatments
 and various diagnoses.  I am particularly interested to hear from any
 sufferers who think their symptoms may be related to any of the
 following:  mercury fillings/filling removal;  orthodontic treatment -
 ie leading to TMJ Syndrome;  ME/CFS/food intolerances.  I have had/do
 have all of these and am still desperately looking for THE ANSWER AND

My ENT thinks it is allergy.  Has anyone else found relief by
 eleminating certain foods?  Meclezine has not helped,  Valium has.
 Also antihistimines. Nothing is good all the time.

I had an attack where I could not move do to dizziness and nausa. The
 doctors said it could be "Meniere's disease? Affecting the inner ear?
 Help, stress seems to trigger dizzy spells. What are other triggers
 that have been noticed.  Sudafed seem to help, if I catch it in time.

I have been to several doctors and have had several tests done to be
 told that I   suffer from a inner ear disorder, My symptons are: First
 of all I am fine  then all of a sudden I get a blurry sensation in my
 eyes and I am   unable to focus on anything unless I hold my head still
 and only move  my eyes, i also have trouble walking because my balance

I've had the feeling that I'm rocking inside like one would feel  on the
 water.  I've had Eng Testing, ABR,and MRI.  The Eng test showed  that
 there is activity in the left ear but no diagnosis.  I don't  feel this
 rocking when I'm in motion as in walking or driving a car.  When it
 started out, I felt it only when I laid down,then it   progressed to
 sitting, then standing.  I've had this problem for  a year

My father has had on and off lightheadedness for the past 10 years.  He
 always gets headaches and vivid dreams when this dizziness comes on.
 Has anyone else had this senerio or heard of this combination?

 Was in auto accident 3/11/96. Have had severe back & neck pain. Had
 surgery for bulging disk in July, 96. Dizziness started about 6 months
 ago.  Am scheduled to see my neuroligist March 3.  Have any of you had

vertigo resulting from auto accident sept. '94 has gone unrelieved since
 then.  have tried accupuncture and some balance therapy.  has gotten
 worse this   winter resulting in several bad falls down stairs.

I have had dizziness for about two years.  I feel like I can't focus  on
 anything especially when I move too fast. Very tired all the time.
 Have tried Meclazine, sinus pills but they just make me very tired.

Intermittent attacks of dizziness with chronic lightheadedness, fullness
 in ears with pain behind left eye.  Occasional attacks of sick feeling.
 Unable to work, drive, or be productive for 10 weeks now. Seen

I hope you are having a not-so-dizzy day. Vertigo has been a problem
 for just over a year now. In the past few months I have been taking
 Ginkgo Biloba 3-times a day and I feel it does help at least a little
 bit.

I have dizziness only after an illness i.e cold or flu and it usually
 lasts 7-10 days. Does anyone else have this? What do you do about it? I
 am a teacher so I cannot take time off work every time I have

My dizziness is more of a head motion than vertigo (spinning). It occurs
 after  I sit for long periods of time at my desk or ride in a car for a
 period of time. It is worse later in the day. I also get a fullness in
 my left ear when it occurs. I also notice the fullness when I'm in a
 large room with a lot of noise. It only lasts for 30-45 seconds.

I've been dizzy on and off for about seven years.  I have received clean
 bills of health from ents, neurologists, etc. Suddenly I've realized
 that I remember this beginning not long after eye surgery to correct
 "crossed eyes" from childhood. Sounds stupid,but all I ever heard was
 about inner ear as the cause.   I sympathize with all, it is very
 debilitating, I can't drive,stand for long,and no one understands.

I have now been suffering from vestibular neuronitis (this is what my
 doctor call it) for just under a week and after reading some of the
 other entries here, I must admit it's quite frightening.  I just hope
 that I am lucky than others and that I'm rid of this strange A.S.A.P.

I have been suffering from dizziness, hot spells and anxiety attacks
 since Oct. 96.  I thought I was going crazy at first. I like many
 others have not been diagnosed, but have been told I possibly had an
 inner ear virus which caused all the horrible side effects. My symptoms
 are slowly getting better but I do hope more physicians will look at
 this as a serious matter and fight together to find a cure.

Have suffered from chronic vertigo since 1989 - I'm told as a result of
 pressure injury from scuba diving.  However, despite extensive tests, I
 have never been properly diagnosed.  Support in the UK is non-existent.

vertigo  dizziness  call it what you will  it creeps in without a knock

Mom had surgery to fix trigeminal neuralgia 6/95. Side effect: sudden
 loss of hearing(1 side)/dizzy.  Help?

4 major episodes in 10 years avg 6 weeks.   Usually very bad for two
 weeks.  Latest attack right now.  Quit Nutrasweeet on advice of  MD and
 got major improvement in tinnitus.   Triggers: perfumes, bright light,
 low blood sugar and, exhaustion.   I use micro doses of dramamine (1/4)
 tablet, sudafed, rest, small, frequent high carb meals, small doses of
 diazpam.   I have all the empathy in the world for those who have
 unremitting symptoms.  GOD BLESS YOU!

Yikes ... The doctor says I have Vertigo. I can't sleep at night or I
 get very odd dreams. The "Dizziness" for me feels more like being high
 on   marijuana (which I hate) than a spinning sensation. Hot and cold
 flashes  are a real pain too. Not to mention the nausea when I eat.  By
 judging most of these posts out here, it looks like I am doomed.  I

I have had "Vertigo" for 1 1/2 years.  Been to Ear,Nose Throat and
 Neurologist.  Treated with multiple drugs and exercises.   Nothing
 seems to work.  Taking pills now every eight hours.  Doctor has given
 up, said to check the net.  Have Tinniness in both ears.  Loud ringing.
 If medication is not taken I lose all orientation and feel like I will
 die. Also have tightness in chest like a heart attach.  I'm 55, white

vertigo,due to whip lash accident,tried chiro & specialist, left to fend
 for myself,chiro didn't work all that well,phiso seems to work
 better,try to keep moving and work through it,good days and bad, serc
 works for me but takes time to get to 100% when I have a bout...stay

Has anyone heard of acupuncture curing or helping recurring
 dizziness/vertigo?

After severe noise trauma, vertigo appeared.  Started as spinning
 episodes.  Now episodes of "floating" sensation.  Doctors can't
 explain.  Vigorous exercise or lack of sleep (sometimes no reason I can
 see at all) are only things I can relate to time of onset.  Lasts
 several weeks, slowly improving until next episode.  I have constant
 ringing in both ears (probable result of noise trauma?)  Have heard
 that ACCUPUNCTURE and something called CRANIAL PSYCHOTHERAPY can cure

Have had dizziness for 6 years. Was brought on after have a sinus
 infection. Have had several tests. Treatment has included:
 Chiropractic care, Meclizine, Fluid reducing medicine etc.
 Diazepam(Valium)taken when the dizziness comes on is the only  thing
 that helps. Not thinking about it and keeping busy helps most  days. I

I have a vestibular disorder. I don't have the name of which one because
 no one here can tell me which one, only that have a disorder.  I
 believe it to have been caused by antibiotics.  I once was diagnosed
 with BPPV, but the vertigo has since cleared up, but I am still
 experiencing off and on balance problems - heavy head, blurred vision.
 Anybody like me out there or someone that knows this well?

This is the second of 2.  Just to clarify.  My friend has had every test
 imaginable: MRI, Blood tests, Thyroid, Sinus Surgery, Diabetes, etc.
 Everything comes back negative.  My friend is Male, 27 years, 5'10'',
 200lbs., and in outstanding physical condition.  He can't trace any
 event which would have brought on this condition last March. (1yr 2mo.)

 tests, thyroid tests, ENT tests ... get the same response - there's

Have endolymphatic hydrops resulting from auto accident (concussion)
 11/95. Symptoms have remained constant on a daily basis.  (dizziness -
 not spinning, but off-balance, headaches, ear aches,  bouncing vision,
 etc.)  Current employment is looking sketchy at  best.  Any career
 ideas?  Want to keep working, but can't seem to  figure out what fits.

Hi,  Does anyone have Mal de Dembarquement where you feel like you are
 on  a boat.  I'm still desperately looking for something that helps. My
 coping skills aren't too good lately.  This is the 2nd time i've had

Daughter, 10 years old.  Grade 1 astrocytoma brain tumor.  Three brain
 surgeries.  No vertigo after surgeries  Tumor currently shrinking.
 Last spring severe vertigo (room spinned around).  Got over it through
 chiropractic manipulation.  Now spining in her head and can't focus to
 read and go to school (slight nausea).  Doctor doesn't know what is

My son and I have been to doctors right and left for two years with
 his problems they still don't agree what is wrong with him he is 15yr.
 he is dizzy {Light headed?}all the time,and vision blure a lot & room
 spins a lot for a few minuts and he get sick. Whith very bad Headaches

HAVE DIZZINESS/NAUSEA PROBLEMS EVERY YEAR IN THE SPRING THAT LASTS
 ABOUT 1 WEEK OR SO.  IT USUALLY STARTS AFTER OVERWORKING MYSELF OUTSIDE
 IN THE WIND AND IN APRIL OR MAY.  IT COULD BE ALLERGY RELATED - SINCE
 I DO HAVE SEVERE SUMMER ALLERGIES.  THE BOUTS USUALLY HAPPEN WHEN I LAY
 DOWN TO SLEEP OT WHEN I GET UP.  HELP!

I THINK THAT IF YOU FORCE THE DIZZY SPELLS TO COME ON THAT IT HELPS  TO
 SETTLE THE CALCIUM DEPOSITS IN THE INNER EAR (EUSTATION TUBES) TO  STOP
 THE DIZZY SPELLS.  I ONLY GET THE NAUSEA/DIZZINESS IN THE SPRING  AND
 DO BELIEVE IT IS RELATED TO ALLERGIES AND OVERWORKING IN THE SPRING.
 IT ONLY LAST ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. I LIVE WITH IT BECAUSE THE DOCTOR SAYS
 THERE IS NO CURE AND DRAMATENE (MOTION SICKNESS MEDICINE) MAKES ME

I am looking for information on utricular dysfunction. Have been given
 this diagnosis as well as viral endolabyrinthitis, secondary hydrops,
 and BPPN.

Is there any medication to help relieve the constant dizzy spells
 besides meclizine?  I've had vertigo for the past year and this is my
 second flare up!  How can I prevent this from happening again??

I try to keep as active as possible, but often overdo. Pacing is
 difficult. I use a cane in  stores or in crowds. Sleeping in a
 restricting chair allows me to feel better upon waking.   Moving during
 sleep causes eyes to hurt & nausea.  Short rests (1-2 hours) help to
 get through a busy day.

right leg amputated-1993-gentimician caused vertigo, & kidney failure.
 dyalisis followed. but could still drive and fairly mobile.  after a
 cruise in 97 I developed Mal de Debarquement-plus something  called

I have been diagnosed with Vertigo (they are not sure what type).  I am

I found that someone is doing research on a link between herpes and
 vestibular disorders.  I am trying to find anyone who might know
 anything about it.  I just keep trying to  track down leads and
 hopefully will be able to find out some possible answers.  I have been
 free from symptoms for a whole year, Actually 12.5 months.  The
 symptoms have just come back again, and I suspect it is caused by an

When I first started, my symptoms were mild and infrequent.  After about
 7 months it seemed like they were going away.  Then I got an earache
 and  I had them everyday and it lasted for 9 months.  I realized that
 for a  few days I did not have any symptoms and realized it was when I

I started having symptoms last week when I move suddenly for sure, then
 in a broader sense today, steady. My mother says I exhibit the
 symptoms. At first I was curious but now things are getting unnerving,
 scary... How do I not waste my time with Doctors? Is therapy the best
 solution? I guess that I am just like the rest of you. This does'nt
 seem real?

I have MS..the dr thinks I may also hav an inner ear problem causing my
 dizziness.. makes life real hard when even puting my shoes on can start
 me spinning.. hopefully the expert will have some help when I see him

Hi everyone, I went to the doctor today because I've felt like I'm going
 to fall over everytime I make a sudden move. Reading all your messages
 about how long you've had these sensations is pretty scary, I've had
 them for 5 days and will have to stop working, hopefully for only a few
 days.

Just went to the University of Pennsylvania's Balance Center today.
 Have had a rocking feeling, tinnitus, fullness in right ear and poor
 balance for over two years.  Sometimes I go into remission.  Work at a
 library and putting head down or up brings on vertigo.  Hard to write,
 read or use computer.  Pain sometimes in right eye.  I've had it bad
 this week-got very dizzy at work and boss had to take me home. Anyone
 else out there with these problemsd?  Very frustrating.

You are not alone. Truly think it is hereditary, at least in my family.
 My mom has had every test possible. Nothing has shown. I now suffer
 from vertigo and the few times I have gone to my doctor she reassures
 me that it is nothing serious but there is also no treatment. I find
 that it is worse arounf my period, ovulation or stressful time. Also
 had a bad bout upon returning from my 1984 cruise. Never realized that
 there were so many others with these same illnesses.

First attack of vertigo (room spinning) was after root canal.  Currently
 light headed and tired and really not capable of any fast head turns
 or looking at scenery from a car. Doctors doing their best.....more

My mother(age 58)broke her ankle while golfing.   She has been in a cast

I've had Vertigo now for 4 yrs.  First 2-3 months were the worst. Now
 only spells when head is tilted  or laying down.  Cannot lay flat.
 Medication used at bedtime mostly.  I had no dizzyness before the
 initial attach, but do have bad sinus headaches.

I am 45, female, good health and came down with vertigo 5 years ago -  I
 am told a result of a physical blow to back of head.  First few
 episodes  put me in bed for a full week at a time, groping the wall to
 get up  to pee.  Tested by 5 different specialists (including MRI and
 test for  Multipe Scleroise - in Toronto and all agree I have
 "positional vertigo"  Diagnosis: "it will be less severe as time goes
 by" - which has been   true - they all said "re-train yoursystem"  I

Over the past month i have experienced dizziness twice, where i have had
 blackouts. Other times i just feel dizzy and am no longer able to stand
 for longer than 30mins. My legs seem to turn to jelly. I am eating and

 making my life miserable since i know have a mental fear of blacking
 out while travelling to and from work. I was prescribed medication

I have been diagnosed with BPPV, Brandt-Daroff exercises helped
 initially, but after a relapse, I can't get rid of residual symptoms.
 The room no longer spins around, but I am afraid to get back to scuba
 diving.  Has anyone tried diving while still experiencing vertigo
 symptoms?  I am continuing to sail, work, and do everything else, and
 ignore dizziness, but I would like to get better.  Still hate to look

Violent attack 1/20/97. Sig. decrease from onset. Currently contant
 dizziness. Mecclazine, soldane, muscle relax no help. ENG revealed
 vestibular neuronitis. MRI negative. Chiro. and acupuncture no help.
 Ginger, gingo, antioxidants, B complex, mega C, grape seed, and
 selenium no help. About 10% residual dizziness now. Any suggestions.
 The truth is out there.

Over 5 months of the dizzies (not really a spinning, more like I'm
 losing my grip on sanity). It seems to come and go, but not completly.

Two years ago I was out on the Golf course when I had my first
 'episode', (severe dizziness, vomiting ,etc.)  Later dianosed with
 Meniere's disease.  But these symptoms only come around August thru
 November (allergy season).  My head feels congested during this time
 and pretty soon I get dizzy.  Phenegran keeps me from going over the
 edge.  Does anyone have other suggestions?

I have been suffering from vertigo and nausea for the past 6 months.  I
 have been told that it is caused by a virus.  I am seeing a ENT here in
 Atlanta who uses the head maneuvers as a way to deal with the
 displacement of crystals.  I noticed a few other people had mentioned
 this in their comments.  I would love to talk to others about this.

resonding to gardner wright whose menieres flairs up during allergy
 season.  i have had meniers for 10 years now.  i found that a steroid
 nasal spray (such as beconase but there are many) has helped to
 decrease the runny nose and congestion and thus the amount of dizziness
 i experience.  i had an endolymphatic shunt places 2 years ago and so
 far no vertigo attacks since.  almost no hearing on left side due to
 repeated attacks over the years and tinnitis. good luck!

Have had vestibular problems since '90. Started with bppv but as that
 subsided the residuals have been un-relenting. Dizziness, headaches,
 pain in the neck,pain in the eyes, visual disturbances when walking
 down an aisle or driving a car,and fatigue. Valium takes the edge off
 but nothing is a cure. BPPV is completely disabling but infrequent, the
 rest is demoralizing.Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

I was diagnosed with labyrinthitis last October (inner ear virus).  I

I have recently been dianosed with Menieres disease. it started on july
 with spinning when I got up and nausea and fullness in right ear. i had
 a  MRI and the other tests that involve the inner ear function. I saw a
 neurologist   and was told my right inner ear had weaker response than
 the left. He is   prescribing meclizine and diuretics and low salt
 diet. he also is sending  me to vestibular rehab. Does that help?

I am totally amazed that this page existed!  I entered  "vertigo" onto a
 search engine just on a lark (yes, while sitting and swaying back and
 forth at my computer).  I thought I was alone with this dibilation. It
 is very difficult to make anyone really understand the effects, of what
 I was told by an ear specialist, to be "benign vertigo", no hope, no

Hello,  My wife has been suffering from vertigo since Feb 1997. She has
 lost her job over it. On top of it all she  believe and so do I, that
 he doctors here just don't know what to do. Are there any clinics or
 rehab centers near Buffalo and Rochester or even Syracuse that may help
 her. Or even any specalists around upstate NY.  Everywher we turn they
 say there is no treatment just you have to wait it out. My wife is

fell down 13 stairs and hit my head 2 wks ago didn't loose
 consciousness, just sore, light headed, neck pain, a few spinning
 episodes when going from lying flat to sitting, started feeling better

I am almost 19, and have had VESTIBULAR NEURONITIS for 9 months now. I
 had bronchitis\sinus infection,and right after the antiobiotics cured
 thatI started to feel nauseated. I have felt sick,disoriented,depressed

I have oscillopsia or bouncing vision.  I would like to correspond with

This is a great page.  It helps to know that others are feeling as
 frustrated when the doctors cant find out what the problem is.   Have
 had all the tests done.  I still get dizzy whenever I see movenent.
 Bothered by bright lights. Pressure in eyes.  Cant drive, or shop
 somtimes for 2 months at a time. Then gets better for a while. Very
 depressing when you cant go out or have a life past being a hermit.

Nice to know I'm not alone, 4th attack now in 2 years - not to bad  this
 time 3 weeks so far. 1st attack could n't even crawl for a week!  2nd
 attack most annoying one it dribbled on for 3 months cured by
 homeopathic drops (VEGA test)- and a holiday! All prescription medicine
 a waste of time - just zonk me out. I think it might be unsubconsious
 stress triggered but I'm not a stress candidate?. On my first pregnancy

Hi out there, it`s great to know I`m not alone!   I have had attacks of
 dizziness since falling off a bike onto my chin   6 years ago. In the
 last year, it`s got much worse, and after a spell  in hospital I had to
 leave my job (English teacher) and go freelance.   Chiropractic and
 acupuncture have had limited success - any more ideas?  Would love to

Vertigo for almost 2 years. Once a month get severe spinning where I

I had brain surgery 3 years ago.  An infection a couple months later
 took out my vestibular functions.  I've had continuous vertigo every
 since (except most sleep hours).  I'm trying to resume professional
 responsibilities and physical reconditioning.  Both are inhibited by

 antihistimines that help you sleep and are supposed to work but havn't

Out of the blue I became dizzy. It got worse and in about three days my
 world was spinning. I haven't been able to work, drive etc. Have seen
 internist and neurologist and had an MRI, which showed no
 abnormalities. Does anyone with similar problems live in Wash D.C.

When I feel the dizziness coming on I have to remove myself from
 bright places for a while and go to a dark cool room.  This helps
 relieve the symptoms.

Had severe Vertigo  2 years ago. Believe it was caused by root canal
 infection. Sought treatment through Reflexology and it worked! I was
 free from dizziness.Had been Vertigio free only to suddenly have   a
 re-lapse (Not nearly as severe as before).   I will return to the
 Reflexology and continue treatments    on a regular basis -even if I am
 free of dizziness - as I feel  this treatment is overall beneficial for
 the body. Gravol helps me.

I am new to this so hope I am doing it right. I am trying to get in
 touch with anyone who has had vestibular damage due to the mycin drugs
 such as Gentamicin, Vancomycin, Kanamycin, etc.  If you have vestibular

I have experienced dizziness & constant imbalance since Nov. 1996.  Did
 ENG-was abnormal. Do not fit into any specific category of vestibular
 disorders. Feel very isolated. Tried acupuncture & reiki healing, some
 help. Take Valium to help with balance & anxiety. Frustrated by lack of
 support/knowledge in medical community. Had to stop working since
 1/97...on SSDI now. Like to communciate with others in same situation

My first attack of vertigo was 7-8yrs. ago .I was only recently
 diagnosed with BPPV.my attacks are more frequent and lasting longer.[3-
 4 wks. or more]it used to be only a couple days. apparently this is
 stemming from the inner ear,however it seems to come on at stressful
 times in my life.I have yet to find relief.Chiropractor says my

Dec. 5th, 1996  it began. Lost hearing in left ear - from demolition
 work   in Marine Corps 55 years ago.   Area around left eye and left
 ear became 'numb' - no soft, warm skin feeling - went to 'hot tub' spa
 and 3 days a week 'shot' 103 degree jet on  'ear and eye' for 30
 minutes, on and off, while massaging that area.  Macular  'in left eye'
 in a period of four months has gone  completely, hearing in  left ear
 came  back from 'zero'  to approximtely 50 per cent.  Skin is 'normal'

The chiorpracter has helped me.  Also taking sinus medicine and doin
 head and eye exercises.  Also I try to forget about it and go on   with
 life.  My faith in God and having a good life helps me to forget.

I went on a trip from Miami to Finland (11 hours!) and was never the
 same after that.  I had my first incident of vertigo 2 days after I
 landed and every three months or so after that.  I was told I had
 "altitudinal   vertigo" and given Meclizine & Xanax - but I hate to

I have had BPV for 13 years.  It has gotten better over the years  but I
 think this is because my body has adjusted to it.  I never had  a
 spining I had a rocking.  When my head is down and looking to   the
 left and something moves, I get a feeling like coming down a   roller
 coaster.  The doctors tell you BPV is not life threatening and  you
 have to learn to live with it.  I think if they had this they would  be
 more understanding as it affects every part of your life.

Lately I have heard about wrist bands which may alleviate the dizzyness.
 Can anyone tell me where I can locate these in Canada?

29 years old and have had symptoms for 6 yrs. started at a fun park
 while on a ride. Lots of $$, medicine and many doctors yet no relief.
 Constant nausea and dizziness.  Head feals heavy all the time.  Yes,
 my vision is not 20/20 any more.  I have tried it all and nothing
 works.  The last doctor said it was all in my mind. He put me on  anti-
 d med.  Hospital visit led to Multiple Sclerosis, white spots on
 brain.  Does anyone else have these spots?

My boyfriend's mother has mal de debarquement and needs coping
 strategies. We would really appreciate any suggestions for her  and her
 family.

The only thing that I have found to help me cope with my vertigo, is to
 catch it before it starts, and take my antivert.

I have had dizziness off and on for many years.  In the last three
 weeks, I have been dizzy every day.  Especially when I lay on my left
 side.  When I get up I am dizzy, when I move my head to fast, etc.  I
 have been to two ear specialist, which when I go, this is not occuring,
 so the cannot effectively test my dizziness.  My doctor put me on
 Clariton and Antivert.  That is it.  I have been trying exercises of
 "defeating the dizziness" as one doctor suggested, but this makes me

I am experiencing lightheadedness and dizziness, vertigo so strong that
 it will throw me to the ground.  It comes in waves and is not always a
 problem.  I do not (to my knowledge) have any sensations of inner ear
 problems.  Anybody else in the same boat?    John

My college age son has suffered for two yrs. now from vestibular
 neuronitis, caused by the flu.  Every test imaginable - hearing, mri's,
 c-scan, vestibular and blood workups have been performed. He cannot
 drive distances, cannot concentrate and his primary symptom is feeling
 "out of it", "foggy-minded or dreaming". (no alcohol or drug
 involvement).  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I have had 3 severe vertigo attacks in the past 9 months with not too
 much help from the doctors.  I am wondering how this will affect a
 person on a long air  flight of 18 hours.  Has anyone out there done
 anything like this and what were the results.  Would motion sickness
 medication help?  Any help would be greatly appeciated.

To Donna in Cobourg. Ontario. What you are asking about is called "Sea
 Bands" . Ask for them at any larger drug store. They work on the
 acupressure systems. They dont hurt and can be worn for long times.
 Just position them correctly. Otherwise you could bruise and get really
 sore wrists.  They help me somtimes.  Hope they help you. Good luck.

 area with vertigo.  I started curling this year and three women there
 have got it and know of others as well.  Seems to be a virus that has
 hit our area lately.

I'm relatively new at experiencing this problem and would be grateful
 to anyone who's found something that works. So far I'm only getting
 spells of the dizzyness that last about 5 minutes. I hope it doesn't

I thought that I had food poisoning. My doctor prescribed me with
 vertigo tabs.

i am sufferingfrom dizziness &vertigo for 4 months. having lots of fear
 and anxietyplaese someone tell me how to b positive and cope with

 taking lots of medicinestell me some exercisesthat will releive the

Hi.Ive had constant rocking and swaying with the odd dizzy thrown   in
 to let me know Im still alive. I have no dx as we have no diagnostic
 testing here apart from MRIs. Is there anyone in NewZealand that has
 this problem so we can compare notes .

wozziness associated presumably with inner ear problem,excllent health
 otherwise,advised by doctors it would go awaywithin 6mos,now 8mos no
 improvement

It's nice to see that there are others like me who have these symptoms
 and still have to live wtih them. I have suffered now for 5 years
 without  relief and can sympathize with all of you. I have tried all
 types of  treatments with no success but all I can say is that we need

Hello! I AM WRITING FOR ANY HELP. FOR 2 MONTHS NOW I'VE HAD THE
 STRANGEST DIZZINESS. ITS NOT SPINNING, MORE OF A BRAIN FOG. FEELING OF
 UNREALITY OR HAZINESS. FEEL AS IF I'M STUCK IN THIS SHELL AND CANNOT
 GET BACK INTO REALITY.ALMOST LIKE A HIGH WHICH I CANNOT STAND. I
 SOMETIMES GET A LITTLE JITTERY AND SHAKY. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE?
 I HAVE BEEN ON PAXIL FOR TWO AND A HALF WEEKS. ITS OKAY. PLEASE SEND ME

 surgeries (laparoscopy and cystoscopy) on Oct. 20, and the symptoms

 loud noises will drive you crazy, slight movements in bed feel like
 rocking boat, feeling of blood rushing immed to your head,or millions
 of pins sticking in your head,tired all the time, need I say More!I
 think a lot of you are being diagnoised wrong. I had this for five
 years and as long as I take medicine at night and don't do extreme
 exercise I am at 80%,plus no caffine or alcohol.No room left.

     I HAD A SEIZURE IN MARCH OF 1997 WHICH CAUSED BRAIN DAMAGE WHICH IN
 TURN CAUSED MY VESTIBULAR DISORDER.  I HAVE NAUSEA, DIZZINESS,
 HEADACHES AND PANIC ATTACKS.  I FIND IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GO ANY
 PLACE WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF PEOPLE SUCH AS THE MALL.  I AM ABLE TO

I have migraine equivalent dizziness.  Do any of you have it?  How are

dizzy and lightheaded for 2 years. diagnosed bpv. tried meclazine,did
 not help.tried chiro, holistic,vitamins,mri,acupuncture,vestibular
 excersizes, helped little,but still cannot lead a normal life. sports
 and traveling almost impossible. doctors and friends can't comprehend

I have been suffering since 9-8-94. I have had all the tests & have a
 vestibular problem. I was scheduled for a vestibular nerve section 9-97
 and after yet another eng the doctors advised me I would be worse. I am
 now trying vestibular therapy with some success. I also take diamox
 which helps with the fullness in my ears and the ringing is mostly
 gone.  On really bad days I take valium and it helps a little. The
 doctors have given up but I refuse to.  Good luck all
