I ran out of space for any coping strategies. I would recommend
joining VEDA (1-800-837-8428) and trying to find out if there's a
support group near you. If not, try starting one yourself. This has
been helpful to me in many ways. Please contact me if you are
 interested in this. Thanks. :)

I have tried the natural approach and have had some relief. I take
nutritional supplements which help but more specifically I take herbs
to remedy the dizziness. I have found that Gingko Biloba is helpful for
dizziness and Ginger Root for nausea. I have also just started with
Gentamicin injections to stop the vertigo completely. At this point,
it is too early to tell how effective this will be. I highly
recommend becoming a member of VEDA. The information and support

Problems started four years ago, the day after I went on a Disney
"Space" ride with my son. Was immobilized for a few days, walked like
a drunk for weeks. Now I can even ride a bicycle although I notice I
can't keep as straight a course as I used to. Still get occasional
"staggers." Can I expect this to taper off? Or am I stuck with it? I
notice my hearing has deteriorated too. Doctors hear say nothing can
be done and I should be thankful it's not worse (I am!).

There are so many different causes involved with the umbrella diagnosis
of vestibular disorder. For me, at three and a half months I feel like
I am back to about "seventy percent" of my old self. Since my hearing
is gradually returning, I tend to notice more sound that is distracting
rather than useful. Because of that, I keep sponge type ear plugs
handy. Many times, in noisy places such as restaurants or stores, it
makes a big difference in the overall impact of the outting.

about 30 months off-balance, dizzy, and walking around with a swimmy-
eyed feeling that made it very difficult to fix my gaze and to

Lying down is best, no spinning. Reading your notes has really scared

they did was test for stroke, my white blood count was a little high.

Hi! I have had vertigo for 3 years. I had a cat scan and have been

my sinus infection, or perhaps just benign positional vertigo. I

just sitting eating lunch, about 5 minutes of intense spinning. Could
vertigo be sinus related? If it's positional, what can I do to help

Diagnosed with the "beginnings of Meniere's": constant tinnitus, and
bouts of (fortunately) mild vertigo. Some relief with Dyazide, but
best was the accidental discovery that exercise really helps. My
speculation is that it's the vasodilation that accompanies strenuous
exercise. For that reason I'm going to try ginko biloba extract,
also a vasodilator. I'll post the results in a few weeks.

alleviated when I walk by a) wearing a walkman with soothing baroque
music playing and b) fixing my vison on a point in the mid distance
and not letting my eyes wander - hey presto! Dizziness goes! Works for
me. But the music is good, often wear it about the house and it truly
 DOES help.

Hello again! Much detail left out due to space limitations, but I
will be happy to share more with others as I have done much research
on Vestibular disorders, and have amassed a great deal of information
in this area. There remains much to learn, but by sharing our "trips
down the largely uncharted path," WE can help each other cope with the
vast array of very frighting symtoms in a way that no doctor could ever
hope to. I will provide a venue for others to contact me A.S.A.P.

Hello again. I, too, forgot to leave my email address. Still dizzy.
Some days good, others awful. The spells cause much anxiety but I have
found that Xanax has helped. I still feel that this may be caused by
pressure put on the spinal column somewhere in the neck area.
Chiropractic sessions, including electric stimulation, helps - but not
all of the time! I'm still stumped and tired of feeling like this!

Good to know so many have the same problem. I've had mine since 1985.
Dizzy much of the time with transient vertigo. Pressure in and around
nose and below eyes, feels like sinus pressure, sometimes nasty
headaches on one side. No ryhme or reason to attacks. Meditation
seems to work-thinking about something relaxing- or just sitting and
closing eyes. It helps if you can talk to someone about it (other than
a doctor) they don't seem to be able to help anyway!

Rocking feeling, tinnitus & weak feeling in legs/left arm started summer
of 1995. Can you get Mal de Debarquement from flying? Or jet lag that
never stops? Had ENG,MRI,lots og blood tests, no results.Dr. gave me
Xanax for snxiety -- bingo, symptoms gone! (Big mystery to the doc!)
For a long term solution, I'm doing classical homepathy, combined
w/yoga for anxiety, excercise and a zillion vitamins to keep the rest
of me healthy. Anybody else tried homeopathy?

I just found out that my wife might have Meniere's disease. Where do I
look for information on this? I am looking also for information on
where she can be tested reliably in the Wash D.C. area (we don't trust
her "specialist") if the original diagnosis is correct. Prayers
 would help...

Hello, Vertigo/dizziness for 11 months now. Came on gradually. I have a
fear of open spaces/hard surfaces. OK when not on my feet or
walking.Antivert no help.I feel that slight disability from neck
spinal cord injury 20 years ago is major factor along with stress
about the condition, but don't know what triggered the vertigo.
Gingko-Bilobo started 2 weeks ago seems to be helping a little, will
continue taking it. Would like to hear from others... :)

When I start to have a vertigo spin or extreme dizziness, I use several
techniques to distract my mind and stop the spin. You may want to try
one or more of these to see what works for you: count backwards from
100 by 3's; name all of the students in your high school graduating
class; name every teacher you've ever had; name all of the
southern/eastern/western/etc. states in USA. Hope you are having a
 non-dizzy day! Melissa B.

I have been suffering with dizziness, fuzziness etc. for 2 years. Have
had MRI, ENG, glucose tolerance, bloodwork. Went to otolaryngologist
who diagnosed it as vestibular neuritis . He gave me vestibular
exercises called "Cawthornes" where I rotate my head 360 degrees for
60 seconds 10 times a day. It helped for 2 weeks but now I'm dizzy
again. Any suggestions? Natural therapy? Appreciate your reply.(I'm

My mother-in-law is suffering with the following symptons: unsteady
gait, slurred speech, confusion, lapse in memory, fatigue. A recent
CT scan showed no impairment, however, blood test results have her now
receiving B12 shots. From what I have read, she may have one of the
disabilties being discussed. If so, from your experience, which one
could it be? She is a very lovely 81 year old lady, who continues to
work three days a week. She deserves to be properly diagnosed.

I'm 16 and have had dizzy spells, etc., etc. for as long as I can
remember. I was diognosed with a vestibular disfunction when I was in
kindergarden, though I don't know what kind. HINT: a way to get relief
from some "humming" in the ears is to hum or whistle on the same tone!
